Hello 2020! 🎉
Skipping my usual year-end post composed of my realizations and musings about 2019. 😅 Instead, I am here to introduce my “12 stays of 2020” where I would challenge myself to try 12 different accommodations (of any kind) throughout the year. This sprung from the realization (here we go 😒) that I probably checked myself into quite a handful of stays last year, whether for an out-of-town / country trip, plain staycation or attending an event.
Therefore.. what better way to welcome the new year than to start off with the challenge. 😁 First on the list is LUB D MAKATI. 🎉
Lub D Makati is a Bangkok based hostel which opened at Poblacion, Makati about 2 years ago. It prides itself for being a budget accommodation for all types of travelers but mostly targeting millenials who frequently travel.
Aside from their dorm type rooms, they also have private rooms which are equally affordable. One of those is the Deluxe Twin Room which I booked via Traveloka for P2,100 (promo inclusive). It covered the basics which I will mention below.
The place is easy to find, it’s just right along Makati Ave, near A. Venue. The lobby which is at the 2nd floor has all-things inviting for staying guests. You will find the reception area there, elevators, a cozy waiting area, arcade / billiards corner and a skype room for those working on the go.
Our room was on the 6th floor, a few steps from the elevator. Though small, there was enough space to walk around in and it looked bright. 🤩
It had all the things that you will need for a no frills staycation:
• electronic keycard
• in-room wifi!!
• ample outlets for your charging needs + a usb outlet
• smart tv with cable channels that are actually working! 🤗
• mini fridge
• free bottled water and coffee/tea making facility
• mini safe
• telephone for lobby assistance and local calls
• rainshower with hot water
• body wash, shampoo and bathroom tissue are the only toiletries they provided though so best to bring your own
They had all those except for… wait for it…..
This is the only let down of the whole stay, actually. I only noticed that we don’t have towels 8pm-ish (checked in at past 2pm), so I called the lobby to request for them. The person I talked to said they don’t have towels on hand and should be available by 6 in the morning. Whaaaat??! I was caught off guard so I just said okay and put the phone down. A few minutes and twitches later, I decided to ask in person through a supervisor at the lobby.
Me : “Can I talk to your supervisor?”
Receptionist : “What’s the concern mam?”
Me : “I need towels”.
Receptionist : “Wait lang po” then walked to another person at the other side of the table, gestured something then walked back to me, “May kausap lang po sya mam”
I nodded then the other person asked “Hintayin nyo po ba dito?
Me : “Eh ano bang mangyayari? May makukuha ba ako?”
Girl nodded and just gestured for me to wait. Then eventually handed me 2 not-so-new towels. I didn’t even hear a sorry or any expression of concern which made me conclude that service is awful. The fact that I had to basically beg for towels that should have been provided without asking is sort of a deal breaker. So much so that I had to eat good food for dinner just to distract myself. lol
Speaking of food, breakfast is not included in our rate but we still decided to try their rooftop restaurant called Essential goodness, by the pilgrims. It’s at the 13th floor (yes 13th) of the hotel with a view of the Makati skyline. They serve a selection of breakfast food, desserts and drinks. Hotel guests also get a 10% discount from their basic menu.
I have been eyeing their Essential Breakfast (P325) and it did not disappoint! 😋 It indeed has all the essentials for a hearty first meal of the day : eggs with pesto, rye toast, English bangers, bacon, served with potato confit, mushrooms and tomatoes. There’s nothing I don’t love about this plate! Service at the restau was great too.. making up for what the hotel service lacks.
I enjoyed this with a cup of latte that was as equally satisfying. ☕️
If not for the towel issue, I would have rated the stay as a 9.5 (leaving .5 for the noise that we can hear from the hallway). But unfortunately, I would have to give it a 7.5 because customer service plays a huge role. Would I still recommend staying here? Yes, for its location and the rooftop resto!💯 But remember to not settle with excuses they give for things that they can actually provide. Or might as well bring your own towels?? Nahhhh 🤣
